JAGWA MUSIC (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Afro-Casio-Punk out on Crammed Discs)
JAGWA MUSIC are a equally youthful and dynamic hi-speed band directly from the streets of TANZANIA's most vivid city DA ES SALAAM. they killed everyone with a breathtaking 2 hour+ performance at this year's ROSKILDE festival, making otherwise reserved scandinavians go ballistic.
Backed by a hand-held 20 $ keyboard for kids, a couple of very basic drums and a haywire stool (!), the band's charismatic singer has an absolutely show-stopping quality and a voice to rule over songs which very rarely allow themselves to fall back to less than 180 BPM (this is why your friendly PLANET ROCK team feels being reminded here to early breakcore raves - except that the TANZANIANS' music remains 100 % hand-played). we have never been very good in predicting the future, but if this sheer explosion of energy will not turn into the next sensation on the european club and festival stages we might as well eat our hats!
REBEL UP! CREW
As always, the Rebel Up! crew will play electic ethnic sound and everything in between to make you listen & dance while our visuals will make sure there’s never a dull moment on the dancefloor.

drinken. Tot vanavond dus.
mzzzl,
Arnold
In English:
King Ayisoba will not play in OCCII tonight due to visa problems.
After two days of calling the embassy it looks like he will make it
later this week so the gig is now planned for June 18.
We hope that everyone will come and see him then!
Tonight in OCCII we will still play loads of great records with
BassCulture crew and DJ TPOK and there is also a lot to drink. for a
small donation, See you tonight!
cheers,
Arnold

King Ayisoba is a number one star in Ghana, with a few big hits and one number one hit over the last five years. His song "I Want to see you my Father" is in the hearts and minds of every Ghanaian. King Ayisoba is part of the new Hip-Life scene and changed the scene with his new approach by using traditional instruments and songs together with the beats, bleeps and bass that make Hip Life so an exciting modern style. King Ayisoba plays the kologo, a two string instrument that originates from the north of Ghana. The sound is melodic and percussive at the same time. It works really well with the jumpy beats and catchy bass lines that come from his sampler. King Ayisoba sings partly in English and partly in his traditional own language, his lyrics are sometimes funny, often actual, very personal and always imaginative. Sometimes the music reminds of Bo Didley with its percussive catchy beat but this is blues of the 21st century and King Ayisoba is driving the cattle.
Zea is a breakpop mono from Amsterdam. Armed with guitar, mic, drum machines, sampler and synths, Arnold de Boer comes with fast-paced programmed drums, copious synth work, guitars that go from jangly to strummy on a moment’s notice, and vocals that chant as much as they sing; 8-bit electronic sounds exploding all over the place, and at the same time a poptune isn't out of the question either.

OPEN SERIES
Las Kellies, from Buenos Aires, play raw garage rock with lots of rhythm, clipped beats and post-punk playground chants. Think The Slits, The Raincoats and Gang of Four. They just released a split 7? with ESG for Record Store Day and are set to put out their third album on Fire Records.
Danish trio Nelson Can are the girls behind the catchy “Apple Pie” song. If you’re not familiar with THAT track- we suggest you scroll down to the bottom of this post and watch their self-made video asap. So good and danceable!! They will be playing the Roskilde festival this year. So come to the OCCII and catch them at this gig before they blow up!
The guys from Junior Gash (AMS) will set off the evening, so get there early.
P.S. More surprises to be announced…

A/V CLUB & REBEL UP! SOUNDCLASH Afterparty
w/ ALVARIUS B
Rare Acoustic Solo Performance & DJ Set by Alan Bishop of Sun City Girls/Sublime Frequencies
Alvarius B. is the solo acoustic guitar/singer-songwriter alias of Alan Bishop, a major player/seminal figure of the American underground – a founding member of Sun City Girls and the Sublime Frequencies record label. This solo project sees Alan unbalance and entertain using a twisted song cycle blend of humour, politics and heartbreak with melodies old, broken and new – a lethal cocktail for the senses.
