VERBOUWING/RENOVATION
The OCCII is an independent cultural center in Amsterdam, a non-profit and volunteer-run venue for alternative, underground music and cultural events. It will be closed for 4 months this summer due to renovation work and needs your SUPPORT.

Het schema voor de verbouwing ziet er als volgt uit:
Half juli; OCCII dicht.
Week 29; spullen verhuizen/bouwoverleg
Week 30; verhuizen/voorbereidingen sloopwerk
Week 31 en 32; uitsloopwerk entree/toiletten/zijmuur
Week 33 t/m 39; inbouwen entree/toilet/muur en aanpassingen zaal/bar en podium
Week 40-41; uitloop/afwerking/herinrichten
Week 42; schoonmaak en heropening (vanaf 23 oktober)
Week 40 t/m 50; uitvoeren/afwerken werkzaamheden aan kleedkamer en bovenruimte (occii blijft open)
Ben je gedurende bovenstaande periode in de stad en wil je een dag of meerdere dagen meehelpen bij de verbouwing? Meld je dan aan bij onze bouwbrigade.
Geef bij aanmelding aan in welke week(weken) en op welke dagen je beschikbaar bent. Ook is het handig aan te geven welk soort werk de voorkeur heeft en of je bepaalde skills hebt die van pas komen. Met deze informatie kunnen we iedereen zo efficient mogelijk inzetten.
Tijdens de werkdagen zal er voor catering gezorgd worden door OCCII, we zijn dan ook op zoek naar vrijwilligers die liever die taak op zich nemen dan te klussen.

Informatie over de OCCII verbouwing
en oproep voor vrijwilligers
Vanaf half juli tot half oktober sluit OCCII haar deuren voor een aantal werkzaamheden aan het pand waarin de OCCII gevestigd is.
De verbouwing bestaat uit twee delen;
Het eerste deel betreft onderhoud en volledige restauratie van het casco van het pand, waarvan het meeste werk zal plaatsvinden aan de karakteristieke voorgevel van de OCCII. De gevel wordt geheel in de originele staat teruggebracht wat betekend dat ook de entreepartij van de OCCII heringedeeld gaat worden.
Deze verbouwing wordt voorbereid en uitgevoerd door vereniging de Binnenpret, beheerder van het gebouwencomplex.
De OCCII heeft besloten om aansluitend op de bovenstaande werkzaamheden een aantal verbeteringen aan het interieur van de OCCII aan te brengen. De verbeteringen betreffen in de eerste plaats het herinrichten van de entree, waarmee ook de deurpartij verbreedt wordt en het volledig vernieuwen van de toiletfaciliteiten waarbij ook een extra toilet wordt toegevoegd. Er wordt verder een nieuw opslagruimte met eigen ingang voor leveranciers en personeel gemaakt. Deze ingrepen zorgen ervoor dat de OCCII meer bezoekers binnen mag ontvangen en dat de toegankelijkheid van de OCCII voor invaliden sterk wordt verbeterd.
Daarnaast worden verbeteringen aan de zaal aangebracht. Er moet een (isolerende) zijmuur worden vernieuwd en het podium moet worden herbouwd en verhoogd waarbij opslagruimte onder het podium wordt gecreerd. Ook gaan we proberen de zaalvloer te verbeteren om schoonmaak makkelijker te maken.
Als er genoeg financiele middelen (en energie) aanwezig is zullen als laatste de oude kleedruimte achter het podium en de kasbah/bovenruimte aangepast worden.
De kleedkamer krijgt haar oude functie terug en zal worden voorzien van toilet en douche. De bovenruimte zal zodanig worden heringericht dat er tijdens openingstijden een deel als rookruimte kan worden gebruikt. De ventilatie moet worden verbeterd, er wordt een mobiele scheidingswand gemaakt en kantoor en opslagruimte wordt verplaatst.
Voor deze ingrepen is een aantal fondsen benaderd voor een financiele bijdrage en draagt de OCCII uit eigen middelen bij. De verwachting is dat hiermee een groot deel van de kosten gedekt kunnen worden.
Om de begroting sluitend te krijgen zijn we echter ook afhankelijk van de hulp van onze vrijwilligers. De werkzaamheden zullen worden aangestuurd en grotendeels uitgevoerd door aannemer(s) maar een deel van de werkzaamheden kan ook in zelfwerkzaamheid worden uitgevoerd. Te denken valt aan voorbereidend werk (verhuizen/uitsloopwerk) aan eenvoudige klussen (gereedschapbeheer/muur bouwen/ schilderen/catering etc..) en aan afwerken (herinrichten/opruimen).
De uitvoerder heeft ervaring met projecten die (deels) in zelfwerkzaamheden worden uitgevoerd, daarnaast zijn er vanuit OCCII vrijwilligers die de coordinatie op zich hebben genomen.

This not to be missed special film program consists of
experimental shorts by Harrar and classic films featuring Sun Ra and His Arkestra from the late 60's and early 70's, rarely seen publicly, restored and preserved by Harrar.

Please picture Andrei Tarkovski blended with Sergei Parajdanov, think of saints and peacocks in artful mosaics, slow, moving images, fixed camara viewpoints and processed images.
Hear a superb ensemble, great masters of their crafts, play complex music resembling more along Sun Ra recordings like The Magic City and Strange Strings, sounds that are passionate, driving, haunting, nothing of the sort you could humm on your way home, but all the more powerfull and liberating. One long composition and then, at last, artfully deconstructed Space Chants to celebrate Sun Ra and his legacy.

James Harrar has been crafting densely lyrical film-poems
Since the late 1980’s exhibiting at prestigious venues all over the world such as the Museum of Modern Art, Anthology Film Archives, The Andy Warhol Museum and Yamaguchi Center for Art & Media to name a few. His films are personal in a very direct and explicit sense.
In an intimate form, Harrar attempts to imprint thoughts,
dreams and conceptual ideas onto the open-minded viewer while examining the possibilities of perception. Throughout his career, Harrar has tried to give the viewer new visual experiences while challenging fixed notions of filmic language and individual seeing.
Since 1995 James has been collaborating with Marshall Allen, creating live music to Harrar’s silent films. Marshall Allen explores sound in much the same manner that Harrar attempts to explore the moving image. Together they complete a creative cycle similar in tradition with the 17th century alchemical opus.

During the mid-1950's, Marshall Allen met Sun Ra and became a devoted student of his musical cosmology. After joining the Sun Ra Arkestra in 1958, Marshall Allen led Sun Ra's reed section for over 40 years. He is featured on over 200 Sun Ra releases, while appearing as special guest soloist in concert and on recordings with diverse groups such as NRBQ, Phish, Sonic Youth, and Medeski, Martin & Wood. Allen assumed the helm of the Sun Ra Arkestra in 1995 after the ascension of Sun Ra in 1993 and John
Gilmore in 1995. Marshall Allen plays the alto saxophone, flute, clarinet, oboe, kora and E.V.I. (Electronic Valve Instrument).
