KANIPCHEN-FIT

Kanipchen-Fit starts out in May 2004 as a special project for a living room concert tour in Amsterdam, with Gloria (Pussy Poets) on vocals and Empee Holwerda (Lul/Solbakken) on acoustic guitar; improvised songs, based on Gloria’s poems.
The new album: “Unfit For These Times Forever” will be released on June 11th, 2016 on CD and 2 x 7” vinyl, through Makkum Records. The official launch is on that date in the OCCII in Amsterdam, followed by more concerts in the Netherlands and beyond. For September 2016 a tour through Belgium, France and Spain is in the making.

Since 2015 Kanipchen-Fit is:
Gloria – vocals, Empee Holwerda – guitar, vocals, Frank Sloos – drums.
Previously the band has existed in different forms, appearing mostly as a duo with a drum-machine.

“Unfit For These Times Forever” is officially Kanipchen-Fit’s second album,
after 2010’s “Multibenefit” CD. But for the band in its present incarnation, it is a new departure.
The addition of real drums, expertly played by Frank, complements the sound they have been searching for.

Kanipchen-Fit has done concerts regularly, in Europe as well as the U.S., which was its home base between 2005-2011. Noteworthy are two European tours with Zea, in 2009 and 2010, and the latest string of performances with Frank Sloos in the Dutch underground. The coming album will be cause for a renewed push for gigs all over Europe and beyond.

Gloria has a history in the legendary, all-female group of performance-based New York poets,
called the Pussy Poets;
Empee arrives from the noisy punk-wave of Lul, through new-wavy post-postrock of Solbakken, to his current bluesy rock-grooves;
Frank is probably best known for his fancy surf-rhythms in the Treble Spankers, and straight forward punk-tightness in Big Paulus.

For the cover-art of both the double 7-inch and the CD Kanipchen-Fit uses one of Gloria’s pieces called ‘Life Saver’. It is part of a series of artworks made from playing cards, that recreate objects which could decide life or death, but are rendered useless by the nature of its main component.

In its lyrics Kanipchen-Fit tries to make sense of heartfelt experiences, without getting too bogged down in seriousness. Musically, Kanipchen-Fit embarks on different styles, but stays in the neighbourhood of what has been labeled soul-rock, or noise-blues, among other things. Some even call it funky protest-songs for the twenty-first century.

Inescapably Kanipchen-Fit generates energy, the beat takes over and the adrenalin kicks in, moving and shaking seems inevitable. Probably because they mix the grooving drums with bass heavy rock-guitar and two powerful vocals, it becomes an energy they let freely take control.

In the chorus of “Opening Ceremony” the first line of the Internationale: ‘Wake up, wretched of the earth!’ pops up. These wretched are ‘Unfit For These Times Forever’, these ‘huddled masses’ the Statue of Liberty (“How To Display The Flag”) claims to welcome. But they will not be beaten down, if only by singing out loud, their own song, an international anthem for those who will make it, against whatever societal barriers.

(“Unfit”).

“The Fire Harvest vaart een koers waarop we elkaar tegenkomen.
