MV & EE (USA, Ecstatic Peace, Woodsist, Blackest Rainbow, and 3-Lobed)

For the past fifteen Matt “MV” Valentine (Tower Recordings) and Erika “EE” Elder have been formulating an ancient-modern universe of sound from their base deep in the Vermont woods, via their own Child of Microtones and Heroine Celestial Agriculture imprints and a cottage industry of boutique labels, Ecstatic Peace, Woodsist, Blackest Rainbow, and 3-Lobed among them.

Blending and bending acoustic folk jams with rock and psych, the Vermont-based couple graze upon the fields laid down by The Grateful Dead and Gene Clark, and swim in the depths with Loren Connors and The Dead C. Heroes who have blazed through all kind of colourful scenes and tags like a hot knife through space butter, they have created a body of work that has warmed many a soul through their releases (nigh on 200), exploratory live show and a whole host of visions and stereo experiments. Teaming up with fellow travelers such as Mick Flower, John Moloney, J. Mascis, and The Doozer, their discography is labyrinthine, documenting a long term vision that has stayed true to its course regardless of passing fads, and places them at the heart of of the US psychedelic underground. A singular exploration of American songform and the unknown worlds beyond.

Contemporary American blues visionaries MV & EE are coming back to send European crowds spacewards once more.

Blending and bending acoustic folk jams with rock and psych, the Vermont-based couple of Matt ‘MV’ Valentine and Erika ‘EE’ Elder graze upon the fields laid down by The Grateful Dead and Gene Clark, and swim in the depths with Loren Connors and The Dead C. Heroes who have blazed through all kind of colourful scenes and tags like a hot knife through space butter, they have created a body of work that has warmed many a soul through their releases (nigh on 200), exploratory live show and a whole host of visions and stereo experiments. Matt and Erika do things their own way, and this tour coincides with the release of a new digital-only record (via Revolver/Midheaven, details to follow) as well as a boutique LP release on UK label Blackest Rainbow, and maybe more releases to be inked in…the usually torrent of the goods. Last full-length Fuzzweed came out in February 2012 on Woodsist, and a new LP, Shade Grown, drops on Blackest Rainbow for this tour.

QUOTES ON MV & EE

Been a wild ride on pure land and in the deep space circuit…our “post-Dead” live experience has been tweaked and nurtured reaching extraordinary new frontiers for the duo with killer sound and good vibes – suitable for deep listening and cerebral boogie/ass vibration alike” – MV & EE

Matt’s voice and beautiful arrangements are perfect for easing out of any woozy, headache-laden morning” – Ben Chasny/Six Organs Of Admittance

Their star-kissed analogue sprawl and beautiful singing revitalise tired classic rock moves” – Mojo

The collective makes a loose psychedelia that seems at times on the verge of blissful collapse: soupy-fuzz guitars, fertility-rite boogie and dislocated harmonies that, combined, sound like an iridescent-woodland powwow of Seventies German trippers Amon Duul II. But the pastoral drone and vocal om will, with time and exposure, feel like shelter from your storms” – David Fricke, Rolling Stone

The new LP, Fuzzweed (Three Lobed) is a monster of sweetly-stoned tongue-form. It boils many elements of the essential, ineffable MVEE whatsis into a kind of floating vocal/way-post-Dead instrumental-puddle that will absolutely sear your brain”

– Byron Coley (Arthur Magazine)
