REBEL UP! SOUNDCLASH goes Rebetika! -w/
The Kazatzikis (GR/ A’dam)
live show by Greek rebetika blues duo. Rebetika is the Greek blues from the 20’s and 30’s of last century, sung by Greek immigrants that were kicked out of Asia Minor and Turkey during the wars. Rebetika songs are all about the hard life of an immigrant in the harbours and ghettos of Thessaloniki and Athens, with heavy and dark lyrics that touch drugs, poverty, love drama’s and prostitution. The Kazatzikis will play these old sounds to bring us back to the times of immigrant woes and economic crisis, perhaps a familiar parallel to the present times. Their set will begin around midnight, so arrive on time!
