Our next few presentations will take place at some great social centers / radical spaces / political bookstore. Saied and myself will be there to talk about the book and about the process of making it collaboratively. But most importantly Saied will share some experiences of his time in foreign detention and answer your questions on the topic. All events are free entrance, the book will be sold (and signed by request).
Dit is het waargebeurde verhaal van Saied, een man die asiel zocht en ruim een jaar lang werd vastgehouden in detentiecentrum Schiphol. Binnen de regels van het systeem ontdekte hij een manier om zich tegen het gevangenisregime en de pesterijen van bewakers te verzetten. Dat werd hem niet in dank afgenomen. ‘Alle dagen ui’ werpt een blik op de schaduwzijde van het Nederlandse asielbeleid, die doorgaans verscholen blijft achter ambtelijke termen en geheimhoudingsverklaringen. Een aanklacht tegen het Europese migratie- en vluchtelingenbeleid. Saied en de maakster zullen komen vertellen over het hoe en wat.
‘Alle dagen ui’ tells the true story of Saied who flees his country to seek asylum in the Netherlands where he is put in jail upon arrival. What he ends up experiencing as a refugee is unlike anything he had expected or hoped for.
By following Saied and his experiences in foreign detention the reader is given a peak into the dark backroom of the Dutch immigration system. A place kept well hidden where human rights serve only as a formality.
Alle dagen ui made some noise in the media: Trouw, NRC, Het Parool and the Belgian paper De Morgen all published articles about it, and it received a positive review in De Volkskrant as well as on several comics themed blogs. More info here!
