GOODIEPAL (DK/FO) & Some PALS (INT) + DJ MARCELLE (Another Nice Mess)

We are pleased to announce the presence of SOME very special guests for this occasion: the renowned Dutch DJ: Marcelle + Goodiepal & Pals, a refugee organisation disguised as a contemporary Tek-Rock-Band.

“Known for her eclectic mixes and exquisite musical taste, Dj Marcelle will take us on a sonic journey that combines melodies from around the world with abstract rhythms and underrated gems.”

“What is Goodiepal like live?” is probably one of the most difficult questions we are regularly asked. He’s presented lectures on the history of experimental art and performance, telephoned in performances from abroad, collaborated with a group of nomadic border abolitionists and presented things that words fail to describe. Regardless, the answer to the question is “Goodiepal is Goodiepal”. Confounding, absurd, hilarious and truly experimental, there’s nothing like him apart from himself.

Surprise, adventure, entertainment and education: Four key words often used for describing Dutch DJ and producer Marcelle / Another Nice Mess. Using on stage three turntables, Marcelle takes her mix talents to high heights. She is as much, or even more of, a musician as she is a dj.
On stage and on her records Marcelle transcends a sense of openness and a feeling of freedom, which often have her described as ‘totally enriching’, ‘a true ear opener’, a real ‘pioneer’.
Marcelle plays all over the world, both at festivals, in clubs and in museums/galleries. She was a live dj for a Barcelona circus/performance group. The Uganda Nyege Nyege Music Festival has appointed her as ‘lifetime resident dj’.
For Marcelle the musical form is in a way irrelevant, as long as some urgency is there and a need for not standing still. Therefore sometimes bookers, journalists and audience members initially get confused because Marcelle is hard to pigeonhole. A fitting description would be ‘avant garde ethno bass’ – but you decide.

Goodiepal (DK/FO) is a musician, composer, performer, lecturer and activist whose exploration of music and media art goes beyond customary institutions and norms. His interests in computer technology and alternative intelligence contributed to the development of his ideas on “radical computer music.” After years of performing and travelling with a self-built bicycle, he created Goodiepal & Pals, a refugee organisation disguised as a contemporary Tek-Rock-Band. The band is mostly active in Germany, Scandinavia and the Balkans, and is committed to practice art with activism, for instance through interventions in refugee camps, stopping deportations, and other hacks of the system.

DE BINNENPRET SHORT HISTORY

On Friday, February 10, 1984, these nineteenth century draw horse stables designed by Abraham Salm in the Oud Zuid (Old South) area of Amsterdam were squatted as part of the “Day of Unrest”, organised by the Amsterdam squatters’ movement.

This was a protest against the imminent eviction of the huge “Wijers” squat complex on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, to build a Holiday Inn hotel. Wijers was evicted four days later by a force majeure of the police, who had great difficulty due to the passive resistance of 1500 to 2000 squatters.
