South of North returns to OCCII celebrating the first album release of the self-proclaimed troupe of folk mutants From 2 and the new EP of Elizabeth Davis, transforming a seminal Pete Seeger folk song into various vocal and electronic abstractions. External support by Sri Lankan British artist, researcher and performer Toulip Wonder.

From 2‘s first LP ‘Indie Stock’ places itself in a context it adores and defies. Every wall is movable and no accident is an accident. Just as a song is made out to be one thing it reveals itself to have been the other all along. Make no mistake, there is something at the heart of it all, even though its pulse resonates from all directions at once. The listener becomes the toad, gladly boiled in a shimmering liquid until it is too late: The bass kicks in and cant be unheard.

Amsterdams self-proclaimed troupe of folk mutants, take stock of it all on this record: hushed affect in tumultuous settings, a mole insurrection of epic proportions, the secret workings of pornography platforms and memory. One song might invite to dance, stumble or float, while another is what a ghost should sing. Above all, it is real. Palpably real in a way only the fabrications of true devotees might ever be. What is a consoculator, again?

Elizabeth Davis (US/DE)
Elizabeth Davis is a musician, writer, and audio engineer whose work uses the interplay of technological limitation, algorithmic processes, and human expression/intervention as subject matter. Her music—under her own name or prior alias Wilted Woman—has been released by labels such as Alien Jams, Psychic Liberation, Phantasy, and Superpang. She has presented her work at Sonic Acts (Amsterdam); MaerzMusik, 3HD Festival, and Transmediale (Berlin); Cafe Oto (London); ZKM (Karlsruhe); Fylkingen (Stockholm); and Triennale (Milano) amongst many other venues, festivals and art spaces across Europe and North America. Davis was born in the United States and lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

Toulip Wonder (LK/UK)
Toulip Wonder is the moniker of Sri Lankan British artist and researcher Cassie Layton. As a performer, she has appeared worldwide at venues such as the Barbican, Cafe OTO, Tate, the London ICA, the Young Vic, the Royal Court, and the Hollywood Bowl. She has also voiced several leading roles in video games, including Lady De Sardet in Greedfall, Ashera in Xenoblade Chronicles III, and Zero in Final Fantasy XIV.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, Layton‘s research, Sounds & Silences in the Archives of Empire, positions her as an artist at the National Archives, where she works to decolonise records through sound. Her DIY electronic music practice draws from net and video game art, ambient jazz, new age synthesisers and pop sensibilities. Last year, she released her debut album, Fortune Baby.
